Soccer Team Houston

LUBBOCK, Texas – After opening up Big 12 play with a draw against West Virginia, Texas Tech will play host to No. 25 Texas Sunday afternoon at the John Walker Soccer Complex. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.

Texas Tech (4-2-4, 0-0-1 Big 12) enters the matchup with nationally ranked Texas (6-1-3, 0-0-1 Big 12) after earning a 1-1 draw with West Virginia Thursday. Molly Skucenski paved the way for Tech after knocking in her first collegiate goal.

The Red Raiders come into Sunday looking for revenge after Texas knocked off Tech for the first time in three years last season.

Scouting the Longhorns

No. 25 Texas also earned a draw in its first Big 12 match of the season with No. 12 TCU. Sophomore forward Trinity Byars has heated up offensively after missing the start of the 2022 fall campaign on international duty. The Richardson, Texas, native has now scored a goal in five of the Longhorns last eight matches.

Quick Hitters

  • After three straight matches without a goal (Fullerton, Washington and Saint Mary’s), Texas Tech has now scored in FOUR straight matches.
  • Last season, the Red Raiders offensive attack was led primarily by forward Kirsten Davis. Now in the absence of a leading scorer like Davis, Texas Tech has seven different players who have netted a goal this season.
  • Texas Tech has taken 45 more shots than its opponents. On average, Tech is holding opponents to 6.6 shots per contest while firing off 11.1 shots.
  • Madison White enters the season ranked fourth in Tech’s career goals against record (0.90), third in career shutouts (22) and seventh in career saves (164).
  • The Red Raiders boast a young roster with the addition of 10 freshmen. Freshman Kylie Bahr is the only freshmen to have started every games so far this season while freshman Peyton Parsons has split starts with junior Jillian Martinez in the midfield.
  • This season’s captains are super senior Charlotte Teeter and fourth-year senior Hannah Anderson. Teeter opened up her last season as a Red Raider with a goal in the opener against Troy while Hannah Anderson netted her first goal of the season at North Texas.
  • The Red Raider backline and goalie Madison White have been the highlight of the season thus far. Tech has allowed just six goals this season and recorded four shutouts.
  • The Red Raider backline has limited five different opponents to less than five shots, including allowing Fresno State to just one shot. The defense has limited seven of their nine opponents to three or fewer shots on goal.
  • Excluding the 2020 conference only seasons due to COVID-19, Tech has recorded at least three shutouts through the opening six games in five straight seasons, dating back to 2017.
  • With the start of Big 12 action this week, Texas Tech ranks second in the league in goals-against average (.600), fourth in save percentage (.812) and second in shutout percentage (.500).
  •  Individually, Madison White ranks second in the league in goalie minutes plater (900:00), second in goals-against average (.600), fourth in save percentage (.800) and first in shutouts (5).
